It’s time once again for Harvest Monday, where we celebrate all things harvest related. I got another small harvest from the greenhouse last week of a scallion and some parsley to make a batch of tabouli salad. Parsley is one of my favorite herbs, and I have it growing here pretty much year round. The tabouli went well with my wife’s curried chicken salad and some toasted pita bread for our lunch one day.
We continue to have a lot of birds visit our feeders outside. Red-bellied woodpeckers are frequent visitors at the suet feeders, and last week a male hung around long enough for me to get a photo.
Meanwhile, mama bluebird has built a nest in our nest box and it appears ready for the first egg. Last year the first brood of babies appeared at the end of March, which is earlier than usual for the bluebirds around here.
In other news, our Merrill magnolia trees are blooming, and every year they fill the air with their sweet scent. The show usually lasts for a week or so before the petals fall off and the trees begin leafing out.
Harvest Monday is a day to show off your harvests, how you are saving your harvest, or how you are using your harvest. If you have a harvest you want to share, add your name and blog link to Mr Linky below. And please check out what everyone is harvesting!

So lucky to have captured a snapshot of that woodpecker! Parsley is one of my “can’t get rid of it” herbs: it’s always great to get a little fresh greenery in whatever I’m cooking.
I use the parsley in lots of dishes for sure!
I’m short of salad onions too Dave, I tried only growing them outside this year and I had probably 30% losses to cats, foxes and some disease. I’ve been busy planting to try and catch up : All the best – Steve
I’ve actually got quite a few onions left in the greenhouse, and I’m pulling them as needed. They’ve done quite well in there for me.
Ive only got 300 left, a out two months supply, so the race is on to bring my early showings to maturity by mid may
How exciting to have nest building under way.
