A flurry of activity around the nest box the last few days by both the male and female bluebirds led me to believe the eggs had hatched. Sure enough, my inspection yesterday revealed that the 5 blue eggs hatched into 5 little bluebirds.
The parents will be busy for the next couple of weeks. I was able to get a photo of the babies today, but the parents were not happy about it. I put the box back as quickly as possible and scurried away.
How appropriate that new life arrives at Happy Acres just in time for Easter!
I love Henbogle house, but I can’t help wishing a tiny bit that my yard was more conducive to bluebirds. Enjoy the bluebirds of happiness!
Thanks Ali! I would gladly share some bluebirds with you.
I’d be afraid to put up a box. The cats really rule the roost here. We have so many of them. Not us personally, but the neighborhood.
With the conduit for poles, and a predator baffle, it would be tough for a cat to get to the nest box. You might consider that combo.
Aren’t they amazing, so helpless now and yet unlike our babies they will be able to fend for them self comparatively soon.
So true. they don’t even have their eyes open yet, but in another 2 weeks or so they will be flying. It is amazing!
I just love your photography, congrats on capturing the first of the nestlings!!
Thanks Kelly!
Yesterday when I checked I had five baby bluebirds too. It was so quick. My fifth egg was laid on March 21. I did not check any last week since we’re not supposed to open the box near the end, but I couldn’t resist yesterday!!! Congratulations Papa!
Our 5th egg was laid a day later on 3/22. They must have all got the same memo!
