It’s time for Harvest Monday, where gardeners from all over celebrate all things harvest related. It’s hard to believe it is August already, but that’s what the calendar says. Our harvests say it is summer time though, and last week I got a nice haul of eggplant, tomatoes and enough hot peppers to start a batch of hot sauce.
The tomatoes are of mixed quality, with some bad spots on the larger ones. Damsel is usually a good performer for me here, and I also got fruit from Pink Delicious, Purple Zebra, and Garden Treasure. The smaller ones are a mix of Cherry Bomb and Sunpeach which also do well for me.
We have been enjoying Queen Bee and Honey Bee from my trial planting. Both have been quite tasty, and I have been enjoying them sliced as a side dish. I think they will likely be back in next year’s garden based on what I’ve seen (and tasted) so far.
The bigger eggplants from the in-ground plantings are coming on now. Thanos and Gaudi are two dark-skinned Italian types I got last week. I roasted these as a side dish, topping some with grated Parmesan cheese and some with mozzarella pearls. My wife and I liked both treatments, and they went well with some crispy chicken tenders.
The greenhouse cucumbers are still producing, but slowing down. It has been an awesome year for them, and I have harvested 30 pounds so far. We’ve given quite a few away, since even as much as we like our cucumbers, there’s no way we can eat that many! I used one of the cukes plus some cherry tomatoes in a lentil salad we had for lunch one day last week.
Harvest Monday is a day to show off your harvests, how you are saving your harvest, or how you are using your harvest. If you have a harvest you want to share, add your name and blog link to Mr Linky below. And please check out what everyone is harvesting!

Those two “Bee” tomatoes look really good. I like mottled colors on tomatoes. Are you going to ferment the peppers before making the sauce? I just don’t have good luck doing that.
I’m fermenting the peppers now Will. I’ll let them go about a week before making the hot sauce.
Our tomatoes are just starting but we have plenty of cuuuuuuucumbers
Hello! Everything looks and sounds delish especially lentil salad! I’ll have to try that. My cucumbers were a bust. I grew Suyo Long and Merlin and didn’t really care for either one. I hope to try hot sauce and have a bunch of different kinds of peppers ready so I guess the time is now lol. Keep us posted on yours because you know I want to know all about it! I made garlic powder for the first time this weekend so that is what my post is about. Have a great week!
What lovely eggplants! It seems when we all have cucumbers we have cucumbers! I’m having that same problem.
