It’s time for Harvest Monday, where gardeners from all over celebrate all things harvest related. While the asparagus season here is now officially over, new crops are ready to harvest and eat. I pulled the first of the spring planted kohlrabi last week, one each of Terek and Kolibri. In April I set out about 30 kohlrabi plants in this bed behind the greenhouse, and I plan to set heat-tolerant lettuces in there as I pull the kohlrabi. Those plants are ready to go in as soon as there’s a spot for them. I had good luck last year with the summer lettuce, and hopefully they will do as well this year.
And the first raspberries have started ripening too. It’s a mix of varieties, and I really can’t remember which ones other than Caroline. I know they have been tasty, and we have been enjoying them on our breakfast cereal and muesli.
I also pulled a few of the lettuces I had growing behind the greenhouse. They were getting a little long in the tooth, but still suitable for salads. They were colorful to say the least!
And salads are on the menu here often. It won’t be long before we have our own cucumbers and tomatoes to add to them. My homemade bread always makes for some crunchy croutons to go on top.
In non-harvest news, the bluebirds are raising babies now for the second brood of the year. Only three of the four eggs hatched, but all three babies are looking good and starting to develop feathers. Our local bluebirds sometimes get in a third brood, but it will be a week or so before this batch is ready to fly and leave the nest box.
And in gardening news, I managed to get the sweet potatoes planted last week before the rains returned. I set out 30 slips in all, and hopefully they will do better this year than last. June looks to be another rainy month, and we’ve gotten 2.5 inches already in the first week. We could do with a bit less, as some of the veggies are drowning in all that water!
Harvest Monday is a day to show off your harvests, how you are saving your harvest, or how you are using your harvest. If you have a harvest you want to share, add your name and blog link to Mr Linky below. And please check out what everyone is harvesting!

We like raspberries on our cereal or porridge too but ours aren’t yet ripe. Those bluebirds are busy
Wow, 30 kohlrabi! I knew you liked it, but I didn’t know how much! Those look great. Mine are struggling unfortunately.
Thanks Will. They have a little slug damage on the skin but that will get peeled off anyway.
Look at those bluebirds. Did you do a post on how you constructed the nest box?
I bought the nest box. It’s a Gilbertson PVC nest box, available several sources online

Gorgeous harvests! I’m awestruck that you have raspberries already! Ours are *just beginning to flower. My spinach is abundant and beginning to bolt…always my least favorite part of the heat coming on. Enjoy all those yummy salads!
Thanks Melissa!
