It’s time once again for Harvest Monday, where we celebrate all things harvest related. Harvests have picked up a bit lately, and that’s no April Fooling! It’s salad season here, with the greenhouse lettuce finally maturing. Bergam’s Green is a green leaf lettuce that typically makes big heads of wavy green leaves. It makes a good base for my wife’s Classic Wilted Lettuce Salad, which we enjoyed for dinner one night last week, along with some burgers.
Sea of Red is one of my favorite red leaf lettuces, and I can always depend on it to make colorful heads for me here. I cut a head of it for general salad use, which it adds color and flavor as well as nutrition.
The asparagus bed is slowly but surely coming to life. We cut enough last week to enjoy a bit of it roasted in the oven, which is one of our favorite ways to cook it. We could use a good rain, which would no doubt help it sprout up more quickly.
And in non-harvest news, I baked up a batch of Moomie’s Burger Buns for those burgers we had with the wilted lettuce. I’ve made this recipe countless times, and it is my favorite bun recipe for sure.
Harvest Monday is a day to show off your harvests, how you are saving your harvest, or how you are using your harvest. If you have a harvest you want to share, add your name and blog link to Mr Linky below. And please check out what everyone is harvesting!

Those buns look good
I have a new red lettuce favorite replacing Sea of Red which did not always germinate reliably, especially when direct seeded which I often do with lettuce. Rosaine from Territorial Seed Co. and Pomegranate Crunch are new favorites. Using purchased asparagus for Easter dinner made me long for the 20 years of growing asparagus. Currently, a fruit tree would have to go in order to grow asparagus.
I think Navara is still my favourite red lettuce for spring and summer
