A Sad Day

Yesterday was a sad day at Happy Acres as we lost our 6YO cat Ace. He died suddenly, likely from a heart condition, leaving our hearts heavy with sadness. I’m trying hard to concentrate on his life, not his death, and here are a few of my favorite pics of him from better days.

We both had March birthdays, and it was a custom for my wife to get a pic of us together each March. Here we are in 2016.

A couple of months ago my wife made a corded bowl to donate to a local charity for a fundraising raffle. She wasn’t 100% happy with how the first one turned out, but Ace decided it made a great bed.

Here’s the last pic I took of him a few days ago. He was sleeping in a storage cube my wife had turned into a cat condo.

Farewell Ace. You gave and received lot of love and will be sorely missed. What a lucky kitty you were to have had such loving humans and a wonderful place to live. Dave and Lynda, my thoughts are with you.

  2. Margaret says:

I am so very sorry, Dave & Lynda – it’s incredibly difficult when we lose a beloved, furry member of family. I’m sending healing thoughts your way….XO

Oh no. That’s so sad. Such a pretty boy.

  4. Linda says:

So sorry to hear you lost a fur baby so young. Love the photo of him drinking from your water glass as that’s what ours do and now I have to put out a glass of water on the nightstand every night.

  5. Kathy says:

Ace looks adorable Dave and will leave a special cat-shaped gap in your lives I’m sure. Lots of happy memories there, but you will miss him like crazy. Thinking of you all x

  6. Lorraine Barnett says:

Oh, Dave, I am weepy just looking at all the pictures of Ace. I truly know how heavy your hearts are right now. Those babies are such a part of our family and they love unconditionally. No one of them can ever be “replaced” because they are unique and full of their own personality. Do keep the memories and replay them often to help you through the loss. We lost our 20 year old Gabriel this past winter and we talk about him often. He was a one of a kind jewel. I’m so sorry!

  7. Sue Garrett says:

So sorry to read this. It’s hard to lose a much loved pet.

  8. Katie says:

I’m so sorry to hear that Dave. He was a very handsome cat and I remember that photo of the March birthday boys from one of your earlier posts and thought that was great. Was it saddle thrombus? We had a wonderful Russian Blue feline friend that died young as well (around 6 years) from saddle thrombus; he had a heart condition we didn’t know about. Thinking of you guys from Tallahassee.

  9. Gwen says:

Sending my heartfelt condolences. May your memories of Ace bring you comfort.

  10. Leslee says:

    Rest in peace Ace.
He seemed like quite the character, full of love and feistiness.
Hugs to you Dave and Lynda.

  11. So sorry for your loss. He was a lovely boy who left you far to soon.

Thanks to all of you for your kind words and thoughts. The three of us (me, Lynda and Puddin) are all taking it one moment at a time. The reality of it all is still sinking in.
