Same Blog, New Look

And now, for a quick technical note. I’ve been wanting to change the appearance of this blog for some time. So, today I switched to the Twenty Ten theme. I like the clean look of this theme, plus the fact that it is wider and therefore allows for larger photos, headers, posts, etc. I’ll no doubt be tweaking the options and appearance a bit more in the days and weeks to come. When I’m not gardening, that is!

There is much to be done to prepare for fall and winter here. I need to replant some of the greenhouse beds, plus get some greens going on the benches in there. Lynn over at Wood Ridge is way ahead of me on that front, as she has got lots of containers of greens growing already. I am starting to feel like the grasshopper here, when I should be the ant! I do have some spinach that has sprouted in one cold frame bed, but I want to sow some more spinach plus get some Asian greens and arugula going.

I’m also looking to expand the main garden a bit before next year and replace the deer fencing with something more permanent and sturdy. That will probably involve some outside help from a contractor. I’m still in the research phase with this project. I need to get moving though because I’d like to have it done before spring planting time next year.

Our vacation has left me rested, and ready to tackle some of the projects that have been piling up this summer while I was busy with harvesting and preserving. The freezer(s) and pantry are full, which is a good thing, but it does take a lot of time and energy. I am looking forward to the (somewhat) slower pace of fall.

lovely breakfast from Terrain B&B in Santa Fe

The vacation also left me a couple of pounds heavier, as we dined on big breakfasts and heavier than usual meals in general. We had some great food, but now the time has come to pay the piper! Can you say d-i-e-t and e-x-e-r-c-i-s-e? Oh me!

It is impossible to come to Santa Fe and NOT gain weight. I just hope you got your chile fix while you were here!

    The new format looks great!!

It always seems like there’s never enough time to get things planted in the fall. Every year I feel like I’m way behind. I look at it this way, if it goes in late and isn’t ready for winter harvesting, you’ll have a great head start for the spring!!

We’re facing so many similar things. Not only did we come off vacation recently (though Sante Fe wasn’t exactly our experience), we also have lots of work to do. We have a 10 x 30 ft greenhouse that is not even built yet. This year we’re just hoping to get our cold frames in. Enough about us though. I’m pulling for you in the fall season to get things planted and, not least of all, to enjoy the slower pace of this coming time of year.

I like your new blog format a lot, I tried to do something like this through blogger a while back but couldn’t get it to show the way I wanted. Glad to hear you had a nice vacation….food looks delicious.

  5. Love the new look! I also love Sante Fe – haven’t been there in many years, but I sure have a lot of fond memories.

I haven’t had much time lately for keeping up with blogging / commenting, but I’m still checking out each of your posts and enjoying every one! I’m glad you’ve had such a successful year gardening and preserving!

  6. I feel your pain. I’m doing great with the d-i-e-t, but the e-x-e-r-c-i-s-e has been non-existent! I think my get up and go got up and went 😉

    Yum! Breakfast looks delicious. 😀

The wider format should provide so much more flexibility. I was actually toying with moving my site to another hosting service entirely but almost immediately talked myself out of it due to the complexities of keeping/moving my domain name etc and losing so much history potentially in the process. However, the blog editor on my service is such a pain in the patooty it makes me wish I could do it successfully.
