It snowed again here yesterday. By the looks of things, we got maybe 2 inches of the stuff. We’ve had a lot of snow days this winter season. Not necessarily a lot of snow at one time, but a lot of ‘little’ snows. I am thankful we haven’t been buried by any blizzards like so many have been this winter.
For the first snow of the season, we rushed out, cameras in hand, snapping photos of anything and everything. But by the 9th or 10th snow, I’m a little less anxious to go out there. I mean, how many snow photos do I really need?

The snow is pretty, but I’ve seen enough. I have a lot of salad seedlings growing in the basement. Now all I need is a break in the weather to get some of them planted.

I really don’t want to wish any of my life away, but I am definitely ready for spring!
I’m at least ready for the snow to stop falling for a few weeks, but then again we have had those blizzards. Had another one last night that dropped 8-9″. At least it was less than the last three storms.
We got about 12″ last night. Our biggest snowfall so far this year.

Your greens look wonderful. Questions for you, I want to do a setup of growlights in the future. What type of lights do you use? And does it use a lot of energy? Do you keep the lights on 24 hours? Or only a 12 hour cycle?
I think I’ll keep our 2″! I use wide-spectrum fluorescent bulbs (grow lights), and keep them on about 14 hours a day. If my math is right, one 4 bulb 40 watt fixture kept on 14 hours would use about 2.2 kilowatt hours per day. It can definitely add to your electric bill.

The snow sure is lovely – I especially like admiring it from 80+ degrees!! Your seedlings look very healthy and ready to take off and grow – it won’t be long until the season changes but where in the world did this month go?!!
Wow…your seedlings look amazing. It’s nice to see the setup other gardeners have. We are so buried under snow right now that I’ve been putting off starting any seeds. My mistake I’m sure! I’ll have to whip up some starts this weekend.

I’m with ya! We haven’t had snow for a while, but our temps just dropped back down after a week of really good weather! I like your lights- where did you purchase them? I use just regular shop light fixtures- usually with one cool and one warm light in them. One shelf has grow lights in them though.

I got the light stand at Harris Seeds. I love it, and would recommend it to anyone. It should last me a lifetime!
