Harvest Monday February 13, 2023

It’s time once again for Harvest Monday, where we celebrate all things harvest related. I had only a couple of modest harvests last week. Thankfully the greenhouse crops are now beginning to give us edibles at a time of year when anything fresh is much appreciated. Last week I had oral surgery to remove a cracked tooth, and have been on a soft/liquid food diet since that time. I did harvest some lettuce leaves we used for tacos before the surgery. It looks like Green Forest and Redina in this batch, both of which I have growing in salad boxes. I cut only a few of the outer leaves to let the plants grow on for future harvests.

I also cut some mizuna for use in a frittata. Miz America has burgundy red leaves that color up nicely for me in winter, and Mizspoona Salad Select has tender green leaves and does well for extended harvests when you cut the outer leaves only.

Hopefully I will be back to eating a normal diet soon. I am craving things I can’t eat right now, like this pizza we made last month with arugula from the greenhouse. With a homemade crust and homemade pizza sauce from the freezer, it was tasty then, and I’ll bet it will be even tastier when we have it next!

And in late breaking news – our hellebores have started blooming! They’re a bit earlier than usual, and they are a certainly welcome sight here after a cold and gray winter. More are budded and should be opening in the days to come.

Harvest Monday is a day to show off your harvests, how you are saving your harvest, or how you are using your harvest. If you have a harvest you want to share, add your name and blog link to Mr Linky below. And be sure and check out what everyone is harvesting!
