And now, for a quick technical note. I’ve been wanting to change the appearance of this blog for some time. So, today I switched to the Twenty Ten theme. I like the clean look of this theme, plus the fact that it is wider and therefore allows for larger photos, headers, posts, etc. I’ll no doubt be tweaking the options and appearance a bit more in the days and weeks to come. When I’m not gardening, that is!
There is much to be done to prepare for fall and winter here. I need to replant some of the greenhouse beds, plus get some greens going on the benches in there. Lynn over at Wood Ridge is way ahead of me on that front, as she has got lots of containers of greens growing already. I am starting to feel like the grasshopper here, when I should be the ant! I do have some spinach that has sprouted in one cold frame bed, but I want to sow some more spinach plus get some Asian greens and arugula going.
I’m also looking to expand the main garden a bit before next year and replace the deer fencing with something more permanent and sturdy. That will probably involve some outside help from a contractor. I’m still in the research phase with this project. I need to get moving though because I’d like to have it done before spring planting time next year.
Our vacation has left me rested, and ready to tackle some of the projects that have been piling up this summer while I was busy with harvesting and preserving. The freezer(s) and pantry are full, which is a good thing, but it does take a lot of time and energy. I am looking forward to the (somewhat) slower pace of fall.
The vacation also left me a couple of pounds heavier, as we dined on big breakfasts and heavier than usual meals in general. We had some great food, but now the time has come to pay the piper! Can you say d-i-e-t and e-x-e-r-c-i-s-e? Oh me!
